Fishing report from Varzina Trout Camp, 24-31.07.22 week.
This week 6 guests visited Varzina Trout Camp, but only 3 of them  were interested in targeted fish of this fishing area - wild brown trout. The rest were focused on Atlantic salmon fishing, though trout obviously didn’t ignore salmon flies either. The weather this week was surprisingly very windy. It was rather difficult to fish both with light tackle and with double-handers. Water level in Varzina still stayed rather high for this time of the season, while Kozel has usual summer level already. Water temperature nearby the Camp dropped down a little and approached +14C by the end of the week. Various flies from big streamers up to foams and dry flies were used this week. Despite of difficult conditions, group caught 133 wild brown trout. The biggest one, 71cm, was hooked by Piotr right on the Home pool. 3 guests, who focused on salmon, caught 17 fish. Besides, Jurij caught a couple of extraordinary samples for this time of the season on Varzina. Dazzling white salmon of 7 kilos, such that unwillingly you start to look for sea lice on it. And in a day a kelt, which seemed as if it had just spawned up. The last one was amazing. Through the history of fishing on Varzina river we’ve never caught kelts so late in the season. And they’ve never been caught on Trout Camp fishing beat in summer. Let’s hope, that magic doesn’t stop here and there are more surprises to come.
