Fishing report from Varzina River Lodge 19-26.06.2022
Comparing to the previous week this fishing week was rather successful. At least everyone caught fish and not a single one. The size range also pleased.
Water level continued to go down slowly, so that the majority of lower pools took the shapes encouraging better fishing results.
Water temperature though slowly but still continued to grow up, and got +9C by the end of the week. Water in Penka reached summer level and warmed up to +12C.
Fishing became interesting: salmon shows up on the surface and fishing bites are no longer a single surprise. However, salmon moves to upper pools very slowly. Last week Boulders pool brought some results, while Long Walk still didn’t give in. Despite the fact that one kilometre below, on Finnpool, there have been fishing results for more than 3 weeks. On upper spots only kelts were landed. However, most of them were of rather big size and they didn’t seem to hurry back to the sea. It’s difficult to predict, when salmon is finally going to reach our Waterfall.
Nevertheless 4 guests landed 38 nice fish, often with sea lice. Almost all fish was over 5 kilos. More than that everyone held a meter fish in his hands and some of them not once. 6 salmon were over 20lbs and 5 of them were meter long samples (3 fish were of 100cm, 101cm. and 103cm).
The most productive pools were predictably Hourglass and Finnpool. However all other spots also brought fish, albeit with uneven success.
Waiting for the next week. The river is already very fishable.
